Java 17

Description

Applications in Java are now compiled with JDK 17 (Java Development Kit).
Therefore, version 17 of the JDK and version 10.0 of Tomcat must be installed.

Features involved

Applications compiled in Java.

Notes

  • The IJLIB.jar library distributed with Instant Developer that contains the server-side framework for Web applications, Web services, and NT services has been recompiled. This library is now compiled with the JDK 17.
  • The first time that version 22.0 of Instant Developer is launched and a web application is compiled, Instant Developer will attempt to calculate the "JDK path" and "Tomcat folder" properties using the environment variables configured on Windows. If these parameters are incorrect, they must be modified manually by opening the IDE configuration wizard (Tools>Options command from the main IDE menu).
When returning to previous versions, the old values of the properties are restored. This way, if you activate version 21.5, Instant Developer will revert to compiling using the Java compiling parameters that that version used.
  • Note: it is not currently possible to compile web services with version 22.0 of Instant Developer, because no functioning JAX-WS framework seems to be available for version 17 of the Java JDK that can compile SOAP web services. As soon as we are able to compile a web service with the new version of the JDK, an update to version 22.0 of Instant Developer will be released.
Therefore, if you need to compile a web service in Java, you need to use version 21.5 or another previous version of Instant Developer.
